It's just another part of me.....

Yes, I have many facets, and many faces. But, the face I put on at home is farmer. :) I just absolutely love my animals, and I enjoy spending time with them. Around my house, you will see chickens, roosters, turkeys, and goats all crowding around me. (they really just want food). It's my version of Snow White! hehehe. I'm trying to train the chipmunks around here, but, they haven't caught up yet. :)

I just got a new baby turkey, and I don't have any video of her yet, but, she is a little cuddle bug! I never thought a turkey would be that affectionate, but, she is. Any time she gets the chance, she jumps in my lap and falls asleep. "Are you my mother?".

My favorite part is the guy in the background. This video is a classic!! Hopefully, I don't need to explain to you why this is so funny, but, when I posted it on myspace, quite a few people didn't get it. Maybe they just don't have my sense of humor!! ;)

Dirt And Health

This is what I've been telling people for YEARS! Now, finally, a scientist is confirming it. It's only common sense people! Come ON!!!

By Seth Borenstein

updated 12:04 p.m. PT, Thurs., May. 8, 2008
WASHINGTON - Science has provided the souped-up seeds to feed the world, through biotechnology and old-fashioned crossbreeding. Now the problem is the dirt they're planted in.

As seeds get better, much of the world's soil is getting worse and people are going hungry. Scientists say if they can get the world out of the economically triggered global food crisis, better dirt will be at the root of the solution.

Soils around the world are deteriorating with about one-fifth of the world's cropland considered degraded in some manner. The poor quality has cut production by about one-sixth, according to a World Resources Institute study. Some scientists consider it a slow-motion disaster.

Most would rather die

It's really unfortunate from what I've seen of many people out there. They would rather die than change their way of thinking, or change their eating habits. I watched a good friend of mine die of lung cancer. He had one lung taken out already, yet he still refused to stop smoking. His breakfast every morning was orange juice and vodka, first thing in the morning. He refused to change, and it was very painful for me to watch him die. But, as the old saying goes, you can't help those who don't help themselves.

So, I simply put the information out there, and hope that people are willing to take their own health and well being into their own hands. My parents have always thought that I was obsessed over health. My mom asked me, "Just how long do you want to live, anyways?". My response is this, "It doesn't matter to me how long I live, it's the quality of life while I'm alive." I have friends who do take their health into their hands. One woman is in her 60's and she is DAMN HOT!!! She is in great shape, and she can run circle's around most 30 year olds I know. She was willing to make her health her own responsibility by becoming informed. I want to be in great shape, with a clear mind until the day I die.

Don't watch this video if you are not willing to take responsibility for your life.

The Invitation

THE INVITATION..

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for,
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love, for your dream,
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon.
I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow,
if you have been opened by life's betrayals or have become shriveled and closed
from fear of further pain.
I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own,
without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own,
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic,
to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true.
I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself;
if you can hear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul;
if you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty,
even when it's not pretty, every day,
and if you can source your own life
from it's presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine,
and still stand on the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
"YES!"

It doesn't interest me
to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up,
after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone,
and do what needs to be done to feed the children.

It doesn't interest me who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the center of the fire with me
and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or
what or with whom you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you, from the inside,
when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.

Incredible Story Of How The Brain Defines Us

This is well worth the 18 minutes to watch this! This woman is incredible!! Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor had an opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: One morning, she realized she was having a massive stroke. As it happened -- as she felt her brain functions slip away one by one, speech, movement, understanding -- she studied and remembered every moment. This is a powerful story about how our brains define us and connect us to the world and to one another.

Many of you may be wondering why I would care about a video like this. But, to me, I have always been fascinated about how things work. As a kid, I used to take apart radios, telephones, or any electronical equipment I could get my hands on. I wanted to see how it worked inside. I was always fascinated with the human body in the same way................ except I never wanted to take it apart! But, through books and classes, I learned how things function. The brain is such a fascinating part of the body, it could take years to understand how this functions, and all the different parts of it. But, this is a pretty cool insight.

Getting Called A Hillbilly - I've been called worse!

Ok, I don't know about you............. but, I found this absolutely hysterical. I'll try to relay this story the
best I can......

Most of you know that I moved out into the country, and I love it here. I thought I could get away from the city,
and the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, and just be sovereign and peaceful. So, I am on 8 acres of land on
this hill out in the middle of nowhere.......... basically.

There are 7 other people that live on my hill, and all of us have 8 to 10 acre plots of land, so, the neighbors are
there, but, they aren't too close. I have what is considered a private road going through my property, but,
the neighbors need to use the road in order to get up to their properties. So, there is a little matter of
road maintenance, which, I am perfectly fine with taking care of, but, there are conflicting 'laws' that the
neighbors have been informing me of.

So, I simply decided to go down to the city hall and ask these burning questions for myself. Being that I live in
a very small town, I can actually walk into city hall and talk to the city planner, commissioner.......... I basically
have access to what ever town official I need to speak to. Hey! Maybe I'll run for mayor........... but, that's a
different topic. :)

So, just to set the setting a bit for you, my hair is up in a bun, and I have a baseball cap on. I'm wearing my
grungiest sweatpants and sweatshirt, and I have an old pair of work boots on. In order for me to do any work in my yard
(which is infested with spiders...... YUCK!), I cover up big time. I wear big boots even if it's warm out. I
don't want any of those spiders on me. It's the one thing I have a bit of a fear of. I'll walk on fire, but, dammit,
don't get a spider near me!! So, anyway, I'm pretty damn grungy walking in to city hall.

I explain to the guy that I'm new to the area, and I need to know some of the laws regarding neighbors and private
roads. I tell him where I am living and he responds to me, "Yeah, I know the area, you are living with a bunch
of hillibillies". I was cracking up inside. This guy has no idea who I am. (Wait till he finds out!! I'm sure
hillbillies will be the least of his worries.) I got this funny smirk on my face as he continued to tell me
about the people that live in the country. And now, I've met my neighbors, they aren't exactly hillbillies. Some
of them are doctors, some are realtors......... I wouldn't consider them backwards or hillbilly. This just
tickled me to death. I started imagining him in womens underwear. I was pretty sure he was wearing some purple
or pink panties as he was telling me that I was a hillbilly. He very possibly might have even been wearing a
lacey camisol as well.

Anyways, I thought you guys might get a kick out of this one. I know I did. I still giggle to myself about it
as I'm cruising about town.

A City Girl Learning Country Lessons

Ok, so, maybe I am becoming a bit of a hillbilly........... but, I'm not a very good one. I have always wanted to raise chickens. There is nothing tastier than fresh eggs. And though many of you know that though I have done different diets, vegetarian, etc, I have always loved eggs. I never believed it was completely wrong to eat animals, I just really didn't like the idea of raising animals for mass profit. If I know an animal is happy, and loved, I feel a bit better about it.

However, making the transition from city girl to country girl has been a bit rougher than I had expected. First, I'm trying to build a chicken coop............. I have the materials, but, I haven't gotten it built yet. This new house I just moved into has a beautiful garden out front that is all fenced in because the deer will get into it. However, the garden was grown over and hadn't been taken care of in about 2 years. So, I'm busy weeding it, etc. But, I found this ad on the internet for roosters, and these roosters were absolutely GORGEOUS! I couldn't resist it. They were very inexpensive, so, I drove over to the guys house and these roosters were amazing. I was only going to get ONE and let him run around the property until I got the hen house built.

WELL!! This guy talked me into bringing SIX roosters home with me. OIY! Well, now I have 6 roosters, and no hens, and no eggs. One of the roosters, who was my favorite to begin with, has decided he is the king cock, and everytime I turn my back on him, he takes a running leap at me. He scratched me up pretty good. I find it a bit hilarious, but, my friends don't think it is so funny. So, I have narrowed it down to two roosters that I am going to keep. But, so far, my stint as a country girl hasn't been too successful. I guess it's a learning curve? LOL!!!

Peeling The Onion

The universe is a giant 'YES' machine. And the great thing is, everybody gets to be right! If you believe that you must suffer to gain enlightenment............. then, YOU'RE RIGHT! If you believe that you must have aches and pains, then, you're right. If you believe that you must sit on a rock for an hour a day to better your health, then, it will work, because it's what you believe. What ever your beliefs are, they will reflect in your immediate environment. What ever we believe, the universe simply says, "YES". And we get to be right. So, with that understanding, I have spent alot of time finding out what my own personal hidden beliefs are, and worked diligently to shed them. I'm still peeling the onion. Love, Jackie
